Relax and enjoy a comfortable retreat approximately 30 minutes inside the southern gate of Yosemite National Park, and close to many of the Park’s attractions.
The house is located in Yosemite West, approximately 15 miles (a 25-to 35-minute drive) from three of the must-see destinations in the park: Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. No other location is as close as Yosemite West to all three locations.
Yosemite West is the closest lodging to the skiing and snowshoeing at the Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area at Badger Pass. This small ski area is affordable and friendly for beginners and the access point to all of the Yosemite wilderness in winter.
Though we had both been to Yosemite separately, we first came here together in 1996 while Theresa was getting her PhD in neuroscience at UC Berkeley (and Tom was finishing his UW Madison PhD in history). Over the next seven years, we rock climbed in Yosemite as often as we could.
In 2003, degrees in hand, we came to Yosemite for a four-month sabbatical that turned into "a Mondical and a Tuesdical" as Pete Seeger said. In the end, we both changed professions and have worked as ski instructors (both), a ranger (Tom), assistant manager of the Yosemite Mountaineering School (Theresa), building and maintaining websites (both) and, since 2010, hosts of Alpine Escape guests.
We hope to have the chance to share our love and knowledge of Yosemite with you!
